Science and Social Studies Texts for My K-1-2 Superheroes
Help me give my students a variety of grade-appropriate science and social studies texts to help meet the needs of my multi-grade level special education class.
The superheroes in my class are an amazing group of diverse learners who learn best in the small class setting. My class includes a combination of kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students. While each student in my care has individual academic, social, and/or emotional needs, all of my students demonstrate below-average reading skills which impact their ability to have access to grade-level science and social studies texts. My students LOVE books however my class library has limited science and social studies books addressing each grade level topic.

My Project
Full funding of this project will allow me to obtain developmentally appropriate books to address grade-level science and social studies curriculum for the kindergarten, first, and second grade students in my class. I will be able to build a class collection of books to motivate students to engage in thinking and researching topics. The books I have requested not only address the curriculum, but are high interest with bold and clear visual support.
Inquiry-based, discovery-focused science instruction is widely viewed as best practice today.
Students learn science best when it is integrated with other areas of the curriculum such as reading according to the National Science Teachers Association.
