My students love to learn! They are very excited about technology and the world around them! They especially love to learn about non-fiction and facts. Extreme weather, animal habitats, and matter are a few non-fiction topics that we have covered this year.
My Kindergarten students are curious about the world around them!
They have a hunger for knowledge that is unrivaled by older students. Our school is small and is almost like a family. We all strive to help our students to achieve!
My Project
The Scholastic 'Let's Find Out' and 'Science Spin' series helps students to explore science and social studies topics in an exciting way. When I open the magazine on the Smartboard, it is large so that everyone can see it. There is a text-to-talk feature that highlights the words as it reads which helps students to follow along. We can watch videos about each topic and play interactive games.
Non-fiction text is extremely important, but we never have access to enough good quality non-fiction.
Scholastic does an amazing job with providing non-fiction that is interesting and good quality. Although we have standards to guide us through the curriculum, the technology is lacking. Scholastic has this missing component.
After we have watched the videos and played the games on the Smartboard, I introduce the activity on the back of the magazine. Students are able to complete the activity and highlight sight words that they have learned in the text. Student engagement is the key to learning at this age!
To do all of these things, we need a subscription to these services.
