Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn and love to get their hands dirty. We love to explore as a class. Learning is fun. Students need to be able to learn in an environment that will teach them. In an environment of learning is a project with the ability to explore while learning and help student explore and learn. I want them to feel successful in school and learn to love the journey of education. It is so fun to see their faces when they figure out the assignment through exploration and connect all the information. We are integrating reading, science, and math. It is so great to see them talk about learning and how much fun it is to be in school.
My students are from low income or homeless backgrounds and don't get many opportunities for exploring or trying new things, this will allow them to do both.
My Project
We will be using the scientific method to explore the weather and water cycle. Why does the weather change? What effect does it have on the earth? (hence the candy bars, they really hate watching it go to waste as they say). The candy will be used to demonstrate erosion, weathering, storms and many math problems like graphs. The weather portion of the project include questions like - Why do we have weather and temperature changes? Why do we have storms (the weather visual globe will be used for this activity)? My students will become meteorologists in the classroom by using these and other tools. The weather globe will allow them to see the changes that happen and the patterned in a storm. We will be monitoring the temperatures outside.
This will provide visual and hands-on practice for them can see, learn and understand the weather and the atmosphere around them.
