Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you know how hard it is to understand science without hands-on experiments? My students have very little experience with how water interacts with the earth. We are city dwellers. We know cement. It would be very helpful to actually see how water moves the Earth.
Our school is a neighborhood school where most students live within a mile and walk.
Our city is of over 1 million in population. Most of our families are struggling fanatically. We are a Title I school with over 95% of the students on free or reduced price lunches. Our families care about their child's education. We have 11 girl and only 7 boys. The students love science and math. We love to have as much fun as possible, while still learning. Silliness has been known to break out. We wish we had the funds to do more hands-on activities.
My Project
My students love science. The water tables and video will help my wonderful students get experiences that city kids never get. To really work with water and earth to see for themselves how the Earth changes over time. They will also be able to create experiments of their own and test their hypothesis. This will teach them to work has a team, keep track of data, and draw conclusions. Hands-on is the best way for kids to learn.
My students will perform better on our states science test if we get these materials.
Working together with hands-on experiments, my students will remember the processes and vocabulary they learn. It wont go in one ear and out the other. The information will stay in there memories for a long time.
