Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities in an urban community. 100% of my students are English Language Learners and most receive free and reduced lunch. Despite the barriers they face on a daily basis, these students are very eager to be college and career ready. It is my job to differentiate lessons tailored to meet the students' needs in order for them to be successful. They are very excited to take their learning to the next level.
My Project
In my classroom, I often have students work on group projects that allow them to create many different paper items. The Nikon digital camera will allow me to have students take their own pictures. This way, each student is responsible for their individual part of the project. Using the pictures the students will take, rather than downloading images from the Internet, gives a much greater sense of ownership in the final product. One of our projects will be to create a digital yearbook. I can snap pictures in the classroom, during field trips, and special events. The camera will capture special memories that the children will have forever.
