As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I have a diverse group of students that are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Aside from the challenges they may face, I am determined to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning opportunities.
My students know that I am not teaching to simply give information, but to help shape their future through their hearts and minds.
I want my students to all be successful and to know that I am their biggest cheerleader in life.
Situations beyond my control may seem to prevent my students from the "head start" in life some children receive. However, while they are with me, I am determined to help them see what they can be and do with their future. Although I cannot control what happens when they leave me, I believe 7.5 hours each day is the perfect amount of time to give each of my students the best experiences of their lives. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on the path to success.

Giving my students the chance to share what they have learned at school with someone at home would truly enhance the learning experience while connecting the bridge between school and home!
Using the "Power My Learning: Family Engagement" program, my students would be able to take what they learned at school back to their homes to practice with a parent or guardian. The parents/ guardians would be able to communicate with me what parts of the homework their child struggled with because they could actually see their child working! This program would be such a game changer and truly extend the meaning of 21st century learning!
