I teach 7th- 12th grade students Family and Consumer Science in a small rural town in central Minnesota. Most students are inquisitive, kind and energetic. They are willing to explore new ideas and new methods of learning. Students look forward to class because they get to apply the fundamental skills like math and reading in real world situations. They an amazing and hardworking bunch!
My Project
Providing tablets for recipe research and taking photos will limit outside distractions caused by using personal phones. Digital recipes are currently the most often used cooking resource used by students. Students also enjoy taking photos of their work to share with others. Therefore restricting phone use during kitchen labs has been a challenge. Students ask to use personal phones to work on the assignment, but get easily distracted by the games, texts and other communications available on their personal phone. A tablet for each kitchen will allow students to find digital resources and take photos while keeping their personal phones stored away.
