Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am truly blessed to be a first year teacher to such an amazing group of sweet and creative fourth graders! My students face problems bigger than themselves and bigger than their age should have to endure since they come from a low income community in Camden, NJ. I strive to make school a place where they can come and just be kids.
Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of lack of supplies and resources.
When in school, some supplies are provided for my students. However, when students go home these resources are not as readily available for them.
Every one of my students has a thirst for knowledge. They ask so many questions throughout the day and try to connect everything we are doing to their own lives. Thus, creating an atmosphere where their learning has a purpose. My students are curious and funny. They make every lesson fun by how engaged they can be on any topic. They love to be creative and I am constantly pushing myself to find fun and hands-on activities to teach to help foster their wondrous minds!
My Project
These materials, although they seem trivial, will help our classroom run efficiently. There is truly nothing worse than having to run copies for a whole weeks worth of worksheets and not have any paper left in the printer room. Although I am totally on board with the "Go Green" movement, my students are not fortunate enough to have Chromebooks or laptops for them to use on a regular basis. So I still need to make copies for all my students. This project will also help me replenish our pencil supply since students seem to really eat pencils and dry erase markers seem to always dry out!
