Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a small district in Santa Fe Springs. All of my students have special needs. Most of my students struggle with reading comprehension and math reasoning. The majority of my students have a difficult time understanding the books and materials they read. All of my students are diverse learners. My students face different challenges daily. Sometimes it takes us two to three days to get through an activity because I have to reteach it to them several times.
Although my students face different challenges daily, they never give up.
My students are learning to have a growth mindset. Within my classroom, we use the power of yet. For example, instead of my students saying "I don't know how to read this", they say, "I don't know how to read this yet". My students work hard daily to achieve their goals and finish their assignments. I look forward to seeing my students grow and achieve their goals over this year. The things I love most about my students are their willingness to learn, try new things and ask for help when they need it.
My Project
There are just certain supplies that are needed to be successful in school. My students are constantly coming to me and asking for pencils or a new binder. A lot of my students are provided with one set of school supplies at the begin of the school year and are expected to make it last all year round. Let's be honest that challenging even for adults to do.
Teaching my students to be organized now will help them learn how to be organized the rest of their lives.
These school supplies will be used for that purpose. Helping students be organized and stay organized is one of the school focuses. We want our students to be as organized as possible before sending them to high. Plus every class could use pencils, highlighters, and pens. Help supply my classroom today.
