My students need basic school supplies such as pencils and dry erase markers to complete reading and math work. In addition, we use index cards to practice our phonics skills!

My students live in an impoverished neighborhood, where, for some of them, school is there only safe place and opportunity to eat. We are a 100% free and reduced-price lunch school, so my students receive both breakfast and lunch every day. Entering school, my students are smiling, excited, and ready to learn. They love to learn and understand the importance of their education.
I teach at a turn-around school within Chicago Public Schools and have 30 students who are significantly below grade level.
We do not have the funds to support all students with enough supplies, so many times we have to share. The minute my students enter my classroom we develop a community where trust and respect drive our success. My students have many dreams for their future, but the first step is to become great readers and mathematicians. Practicing these skills with the appropriate tools are essential for my students to become successful.
These items will make a huge difference in my classroom because my students will be able to practice their writing skills, math facts and phonics to help them read. We use pencils, dry erase markers, and index cards every single day in the classroom.
In addition, the dry erase markers are used every day on the carpet to practice spelling and math problems.
It is an easy way for my students to practice multiple problems and for me to check their answers instantly. My students love using all of these materials because they love using hands on materials to learn.
