More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households

My students need three sets of language arts materials, including the complete set of Reading & Writing Activity Stations, that help teach the new common core while being engaging and hands-on.
My students have a huge challenge ahead of them: being successful in school despite the challenges they face in their home life. Teaching using paper and pencil is not effective with my students. I want to teach so they learn - not teach just to teach.
My students are 3rd graders that are not on level with typical third graders.
They have very little help from home and attend a high poverty school. Since they are behind already, typical teaching strategies will not work. The need to be engaged, active, involved, and using hands on materials. They lose focus quickly, are easily frustrated, and need to know someone cares about them and wants them to be successful in school. They are involved in a cycle where very few of their family members graduate from high school and get out of poverty. They all have the ability to be successful given the right tools.
The resources I have requested will enable my students to be successful in school. They need to be engaged and involved in their own learning. With these hands on materials I can teach in a small group. Small group teaching allows me to give more individualized attention and be sure I am teaching on each students individual learning level. This will ensure they can be successful. When they are able to rotate through the stations they remain focused because they switch activities and get up and moving. The three sets of center activities will allow me to teach in small groups while ensuring all of the activity are still reinforcing the common core skills they need in order to successfully move on to fourth grade. My students will learn language skills, how to write a story, how to decode words they are not familiar with, how to find the main idea of a story, how to look back at the text to answer questions, and how to have fun while learning.
This project is important because each one of my students are in danger of repeating third grade.
I want to prevent that by making learning fun and engaging for them while teaching the common core. I want to give them the best chance possible to ensure they can be as successful as a student that does not struggle with their home life. They deserve to have someone believe in them and by providing these resources it shows them they can achieve anything they set their mind to.
