Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a seventh grade math teacher in a low-income school district currently in state receivership. Our school has made amazing growth in the past five years, and the students continue to strive for the best. The seventh graders are hardworking students and deserve to have every opportunity offered to them regardless of their hometown.
My students overcome obstacles every day to be the best students they can be.
They attend an extended school day, participate in intramural sports and after-school activities, and love their families and community.
My Project
Many of my students come to school with few, sometimes no, supplies and I provide those necessities for them. Each summer and throughout the school year I purchase school supplies for my students.
These supplies ensure my students have the materials they need to be successful in school.
Having pencils, markers, paper, paint and eraser available to students helps them be prepared to learn and do their best work in the classroom. Other supplies such as duct tape, command strips and Lysol wipes help build an engaging and safe classroom.
It makes a huge difference for my students and I to have a full closet of supplies available!
