Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students in grades TK-5 and strives to provide high learning expectations for all and a safe learning environment. Our teachers work tirelessly to prepare our students to be successful beyond our walls and as part of our larger community.
My students are kind, creative, hardworking, and energetic.
However, many of my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are from low-income households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They may not have access to books, resources, or even personal space, like other children in the same district.
This leaves some of our students relying heavily on their classroom and teacher to provide a safe place to explore, learn, and grow.
Despite the many challenges my students face outside of school as well as within, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. From the first day of school, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their lives outside our campus, however, I can certainly shape their experience during the school day.
My Project
My students need some essential materials for the various projects and lessons we will be working on this year. We will be creating posters, working on science experiments, making personalized writer's notebooks, and doing art projects that require these supplies.
These materials will supply my students with some basic school supplies that will enable them to start the year fresh and prepared.
Being prepared to learn is something we teach the kids throughout their school experience, so this project will show them that being prepared for learning also applies to their teacher, classroom and school. Having personal supplies helps students be more responsible for the materials.
