This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an inner city magnet school. We have very motivated students who face many economic challenges. For example, many of our students work hours after school to help support their families. Some have to take care of their younger siblings or elders in their family. However, despite all the economic challenges they face at home, they still come to school every day and work hard for a better future. We have a 97-100% graduation rate. Most of our students will be going to college after they graduate from high school.
My Project
My classroom has faced many challenges. Occasionally, my students come to school without supplies needed such as pencils, markers or folders. Additionally, they lack supplies needed for a math class. Most of the graphing calculators in my classroom are not working or are out of batteries. Donation of batteries, pencils, folders, staples and other school supplies will improve my classroom by letting my students have better access to supplies that they can not afford to have at home. This will also allow my student to borrow or even keep these supplies to complete their assignments and stay engaged. We have highly motivated students but they just need financial help with supplies to help them succeed.
