Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere. My 5th-grade class is in a high-need, low-income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.
Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who comes to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels.
As a teacher, it is my job to make sure the students have access to the materials they need, at all times, as well as use those materials in a way that will facilitate higher learning and achievement.
My Project
To make sure my students are prepared for the learning ahead of them, I give each one a set of color-coded folders to ensure that they will be organized and on-task during instruction. They also need glue sticks, composition notebooks, journal notebooks, and chart paper.
All of these items will help to keep the students organized and productive in their fifth grade year.
Yellow is to be the desk folder, where all blank paper is kept. Red is for Language Arts so that all of the important papers needed for reading and writing are easy to access. Green is the content folder for areas such as science and social studies. Light blue is for math. The fastener folders will house our recorder music sheets for easy use during recorder practice. With each of the different colors, students will always know where their papers are. When things are organized, learning happens much more quickly and efficiently.
The notebooks will be used for all subject areas. Each student will have a notebook to house all of their notes and papers that can be easily referenced throughout the year. The glue sticks will be used to glue in all the papers into those notebooks. Sharpies and chart paper will help with note taking in all content areas.
