My first graders are curious, active, funny, creative, and smart. In class, I call them scholars. They take their learning seriously. They set goals, work hard to achieve those goals, and love to track their progress. They support each other as they learn to thrive in our classroom community.
My Project
I am a first-year, first-grade teacher, working to create a safe and inviting classroom for my scholars during a pandemic. A place where we can grow together and have the resources needed to excel and be healthy.
Each day my students have to search to find a working set of headphones.
I only have a limited number that works. My first graders are great at sharing, but when it comes to headphones, they each need their own, especially when we are trying to not share germs.
Keeping students healthy and in the classroom is a priority. An air purifier can sanitize the air helping to reduce airborne contaminants including viruses.
The pandemic has also created unique learning environments for many of my students. This is the first year some of them have attended school in person. They are still learning how to properly sit and participate in a school setting. Fidget toys help improve learning as they allow the brain to filter out extra sensory information helping the child to focus.
