Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an inner-city, comprehensive public high school in Richmond, California Over 85% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and over 95% are students of color.
The challenges many of our students face are profound, and many suffer from trauma associated with poverty, crime and instability at home.
Despite these challenges, our students are driven and determined to gain musical skill and be the best they can be. Their love for music and eagerness to learn is a constant source of inspiration. They deserve more.

My Project
This project will fund the acquisition of a new - free standing 6' by 4' dry music staff dry erase board, as various classroom supplies. The bulk of the cost of this project is for the dry erase board, which is a very common music instructional aid that can aid in developing musical literacy.
I am particularly exited about the doors the large music staff dry erase can open in my classroom.
It will not only facilitate the quick writing of melodies and chords for students to play, read, or copy down, I intend to have music students use it as well. Indeed, I suspect they will enjoy having the opportunity to practice writing music in front of the class themselves, and I think this incredibly valuable for their musical education.
