We are a diverse high school with a population of roughly 1,100 students. There is a large population of African American students and Hispanic students in that population. Nearly 75% of the student population receives free or reduced lunch, and the English department is working on strengthening close reading skills with non-fiction text. It is my goal to get highlighters for color-coding text. I also have a desire to purchase some additional school supplies to have on hand for students who need them.
I have been researching the price of highlighters in four different colors for my students and I am unable to afford a classroom set of the the four different colors, which is why I am seeking help from Donors Choose.
I also have a desire to add some additional school supplies in my classroom for use throughout the school year.
Your donation would help offset some of the back to school costs that I incur at the beginning of each year trying to have a good supply of materials for students who forget them or come unprepared to the classroom.
My Project
These items will make a huge difference in my classroom and to my students in multiple ways. Not only will students be able to highlight text in class collectively, they will each have a folder and a notebook to keep in class to help them stay organized. Pens, pencils and other supplies are necessary in my room as students often forget the necessary materials to function in English class bothers supplies will be used throughout the year. An organizational system has been designed by myself and co-teacher to keep the tenth and eleventh grade students organized and better prepared with classwork and notes. All of this could not happen without your help!
