This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in Hollandale, Mississippi, which is an area of high poverty in the Mississippi Delta. Despite facing a lot of adversity, my students are kind, thoughtful, and fun. My students are diligent workers who are curious and love to learn. They are eager to succeed, and there is a culture of excellence in our classroom. My students are looking forward to the coming year in our government and economics classroom and need help purchasing basic supplies to learn!
My Project
Many of my students have trouble affording basic school supplies during the school year. It can be a great burden for me to ask them to go out and buy binders, tabs, notebooks, and pencils for the classroom. I decided I would like to create a project to supply those things for them so they wouldn't have to worry about how to fund their education. Without binders and tabs to organize notes and classroom activities, many of their work gets lost very quickly and they have trouble finding those materials to study in the future. I have students that ask me every day to supply them with paper and pencils so they can participate in class. I want to take that burden away from them through this project.
