This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third and fourth grade math to students in an inner city school, where all students are on the free or reduced-price lunch plan.
Despite their hardships, the children I teach come to school each day enthusiastic and ready to learn.
However, many of these children struggle with getting support and the necessary supplies to be successful at school. The school provides as much for each child as possible, including backpacks, uniforms, uniform shoes, and extracurricular opportunities. Our principal does as much as she can to support our students financially with supplies. At times there just isn't enough money in the budget.
My Project
My students need basic supplies like: markers, pencils, erasers, card stock, folders, and the list goes on and on. They will use the pencils daily to complete assignments. The markers and card stock will be used for creating hands-on mathematical projects in the classroom. My students will be doing a lot of required hands-on activities, and I want them to have everything they need to be successful. The folders will be used daily and will house all of our small group and differentiated instruction materials.
I want to continue to build curious minds in the classroom.
