My students need supplies to start the school year. English language learners often come with no supplies and this order would allow me to provide them with some materials to complete assignments and projects.
We have a group of exceptional kids from around the world. Many have been in the country for less than a year. They come from countries including Brazil, El Salvador, Vietnam, Peru, Mexico, Jordan, Cape Verde, Greece, and several more. Although they come from many different backgrounds, they are all connected by their new home, Saugus.
These grade 6-8 students study diligently each day at school.
Some of them are learning the basics of the English language and some are working to advance their fluency. They are a small, close-knit group in a large school. They are excited about the chance to see the melting pot of cultures and backgrounds that is Boston.
My Project
Over the last two school years, I have had more than 20 newcomer English language learners come into my ELL program. ELL students often come to school with little or no supplies. Sometimes the language barrier makes it difficult for parents to understand what students need. These supplies will allow me to give the kids what they need in my classroom to complete assignments and projects. I also am asking for individual whiteboards as they are an effective tool for language development. I asked for the composition notebooks so that we can use an interactive writing notebook next year for each student.
These supplies will help students every day in my classroom.
The markers and pencils will be used for creating graphics to accompany new vocabulary (an effective tool for level 1 and 2 English language learners). The composition notebooks requested will be used for an interactive grammar and writing notebook. Finally, the whiteboard sticker will be used to cover up an old chalkboard so that students can use the whiteboard to support language development. Thank you for your consideration.
