Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher at a low-income school in San Jose, California. My students started school last week right after the hurricane struck. Our first week back was filled with lengthy discussions about the hurricane and the tragic aftermath. By the end of the week, several students had asked me what we could do to help. I told them that we would be writing letters to student survivors, but they wanted to feel that they were contributing something more. I suggested sending school supplies, but looking around my classroom, I realized that many of my students' families had needed to save money to buy their own school supplies.
I am writing this proposal to ask for school supplies to help out 20 student victims of the hurricane. These students have nothing and will need supplies when they do finally go back to school somewhere.
Please help us to give these survivors some aid! My students are feeling their civic duty to help their fellow Americans in a time of crisis. This is an important life lesson for them to learn. They will also be adding letters and small personal items to the care package to show their support and empathy.
