My students need school supplies, such as notebooks, Post Its, and folders, to get them started for a year of success, as well as everyday necessities that will help the classroom run smoothly.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! They love to engage with texts of all kinds and discuss issues related to the world around us. Most of the students at my school live nearby and qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.
Despite having to deal with their tough situations outside of school, my students demonstrate their love for learning by showing up to school every day.
I am fortunate to be a part of a school community that works to make sure that all students feel valued, respected, and challenged. On a daily basis, my students think deeply, collaborate to discuss complex issues, and push themselves to do their very best.
My Project
This project will provide all of my students with the supplies needed to be successful in English class this year, allowing them to focus on their studies instead of on the stresses of purchasing back-to-school items. With the funds from this project, each student will receive a notebook and 2-pocket folder, which will be used to hold all of their writing and handouts for the year. Students will use the spiral notebooks to make interactive student notebooks which will keep their handouts organized for future reference and hold all their writing so they monitor how their writing progresses over the course of the year. Other items in this project, such as post-its, pens, glue, poster paper, books for the classroom library, and props/costumes for our Shakespeare unit, will be used by the students on a daily basis to keep them engaged in their learning.
For the first time, I am also requesting household items such as tissues, paper towels, sanitary napkins, band-aids, and safety pins, which are requested by students on a regular basis and therefore disappear quickly.
As a high school teacher, my role in students' lives is not limited to academics. I've realized that in order to have a successful school day, students need access to these basic household supplies in addition to their academic supplies. For the 2018-2019 school year, I'd like to ensure that my students have easy access to these items.
