This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in my classroom are among the lowest level in the school, and they know it. Not only does this serve as their driving force daily, but they are determined to beat students from higher classes on things like the end of quarter tests. They are hungry and eager to be the best.
I teach at S G M Charter, located in a large city of Pennsylvania.
The neighborhood we serve is among one of the most violent and impoverished in the entire city. We are a charter school who has taken over a previous public school, but kept it as an open enrollment neighborhood high school. Our students struggle daily with math and reading, ranging anywhere from 1st - 12th grade levels. Most students deal with challenges outside of school other than homework, so we as teachers try to provide a support system for them all. Despite bumps along the road, we have created a large 9th grade family.
My Project
My students need some classroom supplies including whiteboards, binder dividers, and homework trackers. They will use these materials to participate individually in math class and get feedback on how they are doing. The clear dividers are for their binder organization and for me to put up great work continuously throughout the year to give shout outs!
Students will be more empowered to perform higher and better so that they get put on display like their peers.
They also will feel like they have individual materials for themselves to use.
