This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second-grade students come from low-income households and all receive free lunch. I provide them with a rigorous curriculum to keep them challenged. As a result, they have earned the highest school rating this past school year. Our school goal is to provide our students with the best learning environment so that they can have continued success.
Meeting the needs of my thirty plus diverse students is a daily challenge.
Student abilities vary from high achieving to students with learning disabilities. Our classroom learning environment is centered around small group instruction so that learning can be extended and tailored to meet the needs of every student. Differentiating their learning is necessary so all students can find success at their own pace.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are not fancy or high tech. They are simple everyday materials that should be made available to all classrooms. However, due to extreme budget cuts the simplest of materials are no longer provided to even the neediest of schools. I am requesting chart paper, markers, pencils, erasers, and pencils to be used for everyday activities and lessons. The chart paper and colorful markers will be used for whole group discussions for my visual learners. They will also be used to help bring collaborative group projects to life in any subject area. I also plan to use the materials during our guided reading and small group lessons. Young children need hands-on materials to help them grasp concepts in ways that are meaningful to them. Every child lights up once they find out they can use markers.
These simple materials will help keep my young students engaged during any and all activities.
By increasing the materials we have available, I can ensure that my students will be engaged in more hands-on activities. The more they participate, the more likely they will learn and find success.
