My elementary school is categorized as one of the lower performing schools in the county and in need of extra support and assistance for our students, who all experience high levels of poverty, violence, and educational inequity.
The majority of my students will either be the first or in the first generation of their families to attend college.
Statistically, African Americans, boys, and students whose parents had less education, were more likely to be suspended/expelled. Students who prepared more for their classes, spent more hours on homework, and aspired to higher academic achievement, were less likely to be disciplined at school. Helping students engage in school may be protective against disproportionate school discipline. Only 27% of them will graduate college within four years (compared to 42% of students whose parents graduated from college). But not our students - we all aspire to go to college.
During lessons, we ask our students to try out a skill, write down an answer, or put down a thought that they have. This set of pens and pencils will allow all of my students to have their own materials to participate to their fullest.
The supplies will be used during lessons and small-group work across all subjects.
In our classroom we encourage making mistakes, trying again and not giving up! These materials are engaging, fun and most importantly extremely useful.
Many of my students come from low income families, who are struggling financially, and start the year off with limited to no school supplies. These materials help those families who cannot afford to purchase their children these supplies.
The school supplies will be readily available to bless students throughout the year.
Additionally, the ink will be used to print instructional materials, progress reports, PowerPoints. Differentiation is the key to success for my students. The ink will allow me to print differentiated materials to meet the needs of all my learners. Having ink will help my students be successful tremendously! I believe ink is a necessity for any classroom especially if the students are benefiting from it. Your donation will give my students these needed resources to keep our classroom running smoothly and effectively all year, while watching our learning gains grow.
