Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a mild/moderate Special Day Class filled with 15 amazing little kindergartners, first graders, and second graders. Their disabilities include Autism, speech/language disabilities, and learning disabilities.
My students are little teachers who teach us all to be better human beings.
They are enthusiastic, polite, caring, and extremely energetic. They each have their own different personalities, and each is special in their own way. However, because of the differing disabilities, we have our hands full!
We are a Title I school, and we serve about 75% of low-income families so our resources are limited. We are always looking to better improve ourselves and to provide as many resources as we can for our students. Our students are being prepared to look forward to bright futures, and I hope that I can be a stepping stone along their path to success.
My Project
Writing utensils such as eraseable pens, highlighters, and colorful pens are a great tool for my students to write, and see their writing in vibrant colors. Highlighters are important for my students who are still not yet able to write on their own and need that extra visual aid. Being a Special Day Class means that we are constantly using visuals, and velcro is the best way to stick our visuals all over the classroom.
Learning through technology has become an important aspect of our education.
My students have access to Chromebooks and iPad's, so that they can access online programs to supplement our curriculum. Headphones help my students to be able to focus the outside noise, and listen to their lesson.
