This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have many English language learners in my classroom and a couple are newcomers who have been in the country for under a year. While I work diligently to teach them sight words, idioms, and social norms, their challenges go beyond the academic. I am requesting alarm clocks, bedroom air purifiers, and personal hygiene products (shampoo, body wash, and toothpaste) for two of my students. They have confided that sleeping soundly is sometimes a challenge in their current cramped quarters and that waking up in time for school is a chronic problem in their households. Both the alarm clock and air purifier may solve these problems by allowing my students to set their own alarms in the morning and by promoting better sleep by providing white noise, superior air quality, and odor control in their bedrooms.
