Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a unique urban school with a small town feel located in southwest Denver. Our school district is one of a kind, serving only 1400 students in the entire district, surrounded by 2 of the largest districts in Colorado. Our school serves 600 students in grades 3-8. Sheridan is a highly impacted community with over 90% of students qualifying for free or reduced-priced lunch and almost half of the students being English language learners.
The resilient students at our school are part of an inspiring community that has and continues to overcome many challenges.
Our unique setting allows for individualized opportunities to best support our students and community. At our school we are building learners who can excel both at their academics and their social and emotional needs.
My Project
Hello! Our school is in need of an upgrade for our school store! The Commander Store is used as part of the school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program, where students can purchase school supplies and snacks with Commander Stars! Commander Stars are handed out daily by staff when a student is demonstrating responsible, respectful, and safe behaviors!
At our school, we have been actively working to build a positive school climate, and the Commander Store has played a huge role in motivating students to be positive, and has also encouraged students to recognize their peers who are being positive!
With the items requested, students can earn fun school supplies, sensory fidgets, and snacks, all of which contribute to students feeling positive and making positive connections between actions and consequences.
The community at our school is very close and unique, as it is very small, but near the large Denver metro-area. 96% of our students receive free and reduced-priced lunch, so many families are unable to purchase snacks and school supplies for students each year. Your donation would contribute to our school-wide efforts to continuing recognizing positive behaviors and will bring many smiles to many faces!
