My students need heat/ice packs to help reduce pain and swelling; compression bandages to help with swelling, cover wounds and to keep gauze in place. And saline wash to cleanse wounds.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
All my students are intelligent and destined for bright futures! My students, grades Pre-K to 5th, are moving with a purpose, eager to learn and know that all students count and all moments matter. My students, grades 6th-8th, are being engaged in all types of learning through science, technology, engineering, art and math. They show their P.R.I.D.E. by being prepared, respectful, having integrity, being disciplined and striving for excellence.
As our district's motto states, "[we are] charting a new course to student achievement!"
In both of my schools we "Strive for five" and are preparing our students by equipping them with the necessary skills to be able to compete globally.
My Project
My county is one of the poorest counties in the state of NC, therefore resources are very scarce. I don't think this should limit my ability to perform my duties as a nurse because our children deserve the same care and attention that others receive in other NC counties. The thermometer is used to check the child's temperature and that reading will determine if the child will need medication or seen by their regular physician for further assessment. The emesis (vomit) bags can be utilized by the child until their parent/guardian can pick them up from school.
Being sick impacts not only your ability but willingness to learn.
With the saline, I can clean wounds and remove any debris present. With band-aids, I can cover wounds to decrease the student's chances of getting an infection. Hand sanitizer is used to reduce the spread of germs. A healthy child is able to learn and have the opportunity to meet or exceed their educational needs.
