This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Mrs. D is our school mom!” I hear that phrase at least once a week. My classroom community has a family feel, and my students know that they are loved unconditionally.
Last school year, I was the proud teacher of 25 second graders.
As we approach the upcoming school year, I’m looking forward to looping with them next year and teaching them third grade. I’m excited about the possibility of transforming my room to prepare them for third grade, the year that they will have multiple district assessments, statewide standardized tests, and more academic rigor.
My Project
Flexible seating will allow my students to have choice throughout the school day. By having ownership of their classroom environment, they will know that they have a strong voice in their classroom community. Flexible seating will allow my students to choose where they work, allowing them to change their location and positions as needed. Instead of being in uncomfortable chairs all day, my students will be able to move, increase oxygen flow to their brains and become more alert and focused. Flexible seats will allow my students to work in pairs or small groups easily, increasing their communication. They will be encouraged to share space, thus building a positive classroom community and stronger peer relationships.
