In this day and age a lot of students put school at the bottom of their priority list. My students need to understand that school is their current job, and like any job, they can choose to excel or simply go to work to punch the time clock.
My students are high school juniors and freshman in a competitive academic school.
Our school is relatively small and located in a historic seaport in South Carolina. We are classified as high poverty, but you would never know walking among the students. They have a drive that is matched only by the teachers at this incredible school! As an educator, I must do as much as possible to provide them with resources and an education to prepare them for higher education.
My Project
The time clock will be used to help students learn the importance of showing up to class on time and aggressively finishing their work. Content is important, but so are real life applications. Even if a student isn't going into a science related field, they can learn about billable hours and jobs that require them to keep accurate records of their hourly investment. Students will also be required to time stamp all work to serve as verification of completion.
Time management is an important aspect of adult living.
The time clock will provide visual proof of time use while reinforcing math and work related skills. All of this is necessary regardless of future ambitions.
