Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, engaging fifth graders and our classroom is a warm and welcoming community of learners. They are curious students who love to ask questions and extend their learning. These amazing young people bring their cultural backgrounds into our class of learners to create a diverse classroom community. It is difficult to continue our learning online, but we are trying.

My Project

My students are at home and we are doing instruction as best we can with distance learning online. I share assignments on Google Classroom and I post detailed directions and record audio directions as well. I use videos, interactive, engaging sites like BrainPOP and Flocabulary, and Google Docs and Slides to provide new content from afar. I have virtual office hours and live class sessions to continue to bring our class community together.

I have 40 5th graders in two classes and I want to send them encouraging care packages with mini journals, doodle postcards, bookmarks, and stickers.

It is hard for them to be away from their classmates like this. School is not just a place for learning. It is where they socialize and where they feel safe. I want them to know I am still "here" even though we aren't physically in the classroom.
