My Students

Imagine a room full of engineers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, first responders, farmers, mathematicians, biochemists, politicians, inventors, entrepreneurs, CEOs, accountants, and military members working together to solve a problem using team work and project based learning to deepen their understanding of the issue at hand; these are my students!

They live in an interesting world where they are drawn to technology but forced to learn with instructional methods of the past.

It is a world where they are surrounded by farm fields but have no understanding of how their food is produced, processed, packaged, and sold.

It is time to change how my students learn and interact with the world around them and to blend the old with the new to prepare them for a future where they can navigate between technology and the interpersonal skills that are needed to be successful in our ever changing work force.

My Project

Students will make real-life connections to the world around them while learning math, science, language arts, and history standards. By applying what they learn in the classroom to plan, care for, and harvest plants students can practice mathematical skills such as perimeter; history lessons such as how native americans taught the pilgrims how to plant and grow sister gardens; real-life application of how to writing; and so much more! Students can bring their hard work indoors to sample and enjoy with others across all grade levels Preschool through 5th grade. Students will be in charge from planning to harvesting and everything in between. In order to make this happen, we need grow boxes, soil, planters, gardening tools, seeds, and sprinkler systems. They will then take the learning indoors by continuing their studies with farm-themed educational resources that allow them to increase their math and reading skills. Colored cardstock and copy paper will allow them to create signs to label produce or promote their garden to parents and community members!
