My students are from a rural community and attend a small K-8 school. Our school is its own district of approximately 180 students. One of the most amazing facts about the school I teach at is it happens to be the same school I graduated from, and also my dad before me. The building/campus I teach in is the same one I attended way back when!
In a way, so much has changed and at the same time; the students are just the same.
They are lively, energetic, and love to learn! Our school might be small and our budget is too, but that does not mean I do not strive to give my students the very best of everything they need to make their learning experience the best I can. With this DonorsChoose.org project, I will be one step closer to offering my students a comfortable and inviting place to learn.
My Project
I would like to start a school garden with my class, a place where we can grow different plants and vegetables; a place where we can learn hands-on lessons and bring some of the things we read about to real-life. We have the spot to grow things; however, we do not have the supplies. A garden cart, gloves and tools would help the students have the everyday supplies they need to maintain the school garden. The garden will be planted and maintained by the students. These supplies will be the basic necessities they will need to help care for it.
This project would give us a great start to build our own garden where the students could learn not only responsibility and see the success of their hard work, but actually watch the life cycle of plants and grow, graph their growth and more.
This garden would make a huge impact and help add to our school day.
