Help me give my students a variety of items that will help calm them down when they have strong emotions. These items include a specific spot to calm down and hand held stress balls and gadgets.
This is the first year that our elementary school has a school counselor. After 17 years in high school, I decided to take on this new assignment. I have created a warm and welcoming counseling office for my students. My students are in grade K-5 and since I am the only one, I will be serving all of the students in this elementary school. Over the years, the mental health needs have increased and there is a need for more support. I want to be able to provide a supportive place for all of my students to come to. One thing I have noticed when counseling students is that they like to have something to hold or play with while they talk. I would like a supply of stress balls, fidgets, silly putty, kinetic sand and anything that may help calm students down so they are ready to go back to class and learn.
My Project
Students are more overwhelmed than ever before! Many of them experience strong emotions like anger, sadness, and anxiety during the school day. They need a place to take a break, calm down, and get ready to get back to learning. They visit the school counselor's office to talk through their emotions. They like to play with something as they talk so I like to have multiple items to help them. Having a variety of items to help them calm down is essential. I go through stress balls and other fidgets very quickly and need donor's help to replenish my supply. Most students want to keep the stress ball or fidget for the day, week, or year.
