Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school. My students face challenges every day in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they are so excited about school. School is a safe place for them, a place where no one can hurt them, physically or emotionally. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch because for many students, school is the only place where they will be able to eat.
Although odds may be against them, they have the perseverance to succeed in school.
They are some of the most resilient students and are ready to learn every day. My focus is to give them a rich learning environment with positive experiences and hope for their future. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
It was my students who noticed that common areas around our school were in need of some TLC and asked if they could help "fix it up" so these spaces would look nice and inviting for all students. My students want to use the vinyl quotes in the hallway bathrooms as a means of motivation and to instill confidence in students. They want to see themselves as they walk through the halls! The other items requested will be used in the front office to brighten up the space. Students want the office to be inviting for their parents and other special guests that visit our school. My students are very motivated to transform our school into an inviting and motivating place to learn!
