My Project

Our classroom is a specialized behavior unit for students with social and emotional needs that are greater than what can be provided in the regular classroom. Our self-contained class utilizes social skills and mental health strategies to provide a supportive environment while educating students with the general education academic curriculum.

We have a smaller class size so we can individualize instruction in both academics and social skills to each child's needs and teach them the way they need to learn!

We strive every day to reach every student. Our students' emotional and behavioral needs are our priority. We teach children to control their emotions and display typical emotional responses rather than oppositional or defiant behaviors. Students mainstream into general education classrooms with a skill set to make them successful!

Our special scholars are loving reading with Scholastic Storyworks! It is the crack in the door to a new world of knowledge and excitement that can only come from traveling the world, yet never even leaving your seat as you turn the pages of books!

Our most reluctant readers that have never felt the love that comes with curling up with a great book, are suddenly engaged through reading.

Scholastic is the tried-and-true magazine that many of us received years ago as students and always anticipated its arrival each week. It was filled with topics relevant to our times and connected us to a larger world happening around us. Now it's time for my students to feel that anticipation of the literary magazines. They desire these relevant and timely magazines that draw them in and hook them before they even have a chance to realize that they are reading material that is rigorous and challenging.
