My Students

I teach two departmentalized classes of fourth graders in a rural, low-income community. These students enjoy engaging and interacting together to complete projects and research.

My fourth graders are very energetic and enjoy learning new things in new ways.

This year poses many challenges with budget cuts and teaching virtually. I want to provide my students with materials that will keep them informed of current events while meeting the reading standards and teaching virtually.

My Project

These materials will help my students increase content-area knowledge and inspire a love of learning while reading nonfiction and reading about current events. The magazine is differentiated and offers text-to-speech which will help my struggling readers. The students will enjoy being able to watch the videos to gain background knowledge before reading. The students will enjoy reading the debates in each issue and choosing a side.

Nonfiction is a skill that many students struggle with, and Scholastic News is a perfect addition to our reading materials, and the students will enjoy being able to access them digitally at home as well.
