My Students
I am starting this next school year off in a brand new grade level. I will be teaching 4th grade GATE. This coming year will be a challenge in many ways. However, I am bound and determined to meet that challenge head on.
My incoming students will want to know that I not only care about their success, but will also challenge them academically.
Because they are GATE, this incoming class will need that more than ever. My goal is to foster this from day one.
My Project
My goal this year is to have my students analyze current events. To do that, they need to have access to news that is at their academic level. If I were to get my project funded we would use these Scholastic News magazines as a current events resource.
I would also like to use these magazines as mentor texts for informational writing.
The students would all have a copy of the magazine to find samples of what we are studying. For example, they might cut out pictures with captions as examples of text features. That way my students can see how other writers use the strategies I am asking them to use.
