This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a school that is high needs. Many of the students come from homes that have low or no income. Some of them only get fed when they are at school. Many times they come to school with dirty clothes on, hungry, and with no supplies. Some of my students are being raised by grandparents and great grand parents because their parents can't raise them. They have a lot of deficits that we as a school are working hard to improve.
My Project
My students all come from homes that have low or no income and they do not not get much exposure to things that are outside of their homes and community. With Scholastic News my students will be able to learn more about issues that are from all around the world, and about current events from all over the world. These magazines will help them see that there is a whole lot in this world that they can go out and see and do. They will also help students see that there are other people around the world who face some of the same difficulties that they do.
