My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
My Project
Scholastic News gets first graders excited to read and learn with short, on-level nonfiction and remarkable real-world photos. With each issue, my students will learn about a new seasonal science or social studies theme that's relevant to the changing world around them. They'll also build the nonfiction-reading skills they need most with thoughtfully written texts, lesson plans, and skills sheets. Subscriptions include online resources like digital issues, learning videos, and Text-to-Speech audio to help me as a teacher, lead instruction on an interactive whiteboard, classroom computers, or tablets. This will give students an opportunity to expand their world without leaving the classroom!
