I am a 5th grade teacher at Westarea Elementary School. I teach Language Arts and am responsible for 3 classes. Our school is a Title One school with approximately 93% of students receiving free or reduced lunch due to their economic status. I would love each of my students to have access to a Scholastic News magazine subscription. Many of my students have limited knowledge and exposure to current events. This would enable me to connect the important current events with the reading curriculum, and make their reading more meaningful and exciting. I teach 50 students and ideally would like to get one magazine for each student. With access to this magazine, my students would hopefully not only become better readers, but also become more informed and involved in events happening in the country and the world.
