Mrs. Priest from Akron OH is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Scholastic News magazines to add relevant topics and current events into our science, social studies, and health curriculum.

First and foremost, my students are amazing. They come from a high poverty area in an urban district, and although they may have a tough time at home, most days they come in smiling and have a big hug for me, their teacher.
My students' parents have a hard time contributing to their school supplies, much less anything additional, even if it's a great educational tool.
My students are respectful and eager to learn. They like learning to be interactive and FUN!
My students could greatly benefit from these high-interest, engaging, Common Core aligned science, social studies, and health magazines. They will be using these during our workstation time (small group setting) and later in the year as home assignments too. The students will use a Chromebook to open the digital edition. There, they can be introduced to the vocabulary, get to watch a related interesting video, and it can even be differentiated by having the magazine read to them at either the regular pace or a slow paced setting. After their discussion, there are relevant questions and Common Core aligned assignments that they will complete together. The best part is last...there is an online interactive skills game that the students love to play.
Not only will these magazines and the online tools provide rich learning within the classroom, but they will each get to take home their own colorful paper copy of the magazine.
This allows them to share this valuable resource with their parents and tell them what they have learned and enjoyed at school.
