My Students
My students are eager to learn; however, due to economic challenges of our area, they have limited access to reading materials at home. Parents often struggle with providing basic needs for their families. A routine for everyday newspaper reading is often not established.
Engaging my students with reading materials, that connect with real-life events is my everyday goal.
The format of the news will engage any reluctant reader to explore the news and discuss and reflect on the materials read in writing. Without a doubt, I will see a great success in implementing these materials.
My Project
I would like to generate the interest, among my students, and involve them in reading the paper on a daily basis. In addition to reading, I would like to discuss, with these young adults about the important news items, debate, and finally write about it.
As The Scholastic News contains news related to politics, this would generate a child’s interest towards political issues of the country, how the government works, what are the latest plans that government has implemented and so on.
This helps children become a responsible global citizen. Reading these materials would benefit the kids as it would improve their vocabulary. The Scholastic News will be a powerful teaching tool.
