Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning new things every day. They are curious and ask lots of questions because they want to learn more. They see school as a fun place where they can be challenged. My students are intelligent and need engaging activities that will unlock their full potential.

Our neighborhood is under-served and infested with gangs and violence.

This does not hold students back from maximizing their full potential. Kids see our school as a safe haven.

My Project

My students enjoy reading about popular current events and I have been lucky to use Scholastic News Magazines with my students for the past 3 years. These magazines are standards based and provide my students valuable conversations that lead to engaging writing prompts. The topics are perfect for kids and the readings always keep my kids focused when reading their magazines. We have our traditional reading programs, but scholastic news is an excellent supplement. For my 3rd graders, this magazine is excellent for preparing them for the SBAC Assessment. I give them brief writes that follow the readings. There are many different issues throughout the year and match current events that kids hear about from their parents. Kids are always asking questions about current events and this magazine helps clear misconceptions.
