This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our building is a K-12 charter school. Each of these students come from very diverse backgrounds, many of which receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. My goal is to try to lessen the challenges they have in the classroom. They are amazing kids and I love each and every one of them so much! I want to do my very best for my students, but sometimes I need some help!
My Project
Scholastic News magazines are full of interesting articles that focus on current events. My students don't always know what is going on in the world, so this magazine will help them to be aware of what is going on in the world around them.
Scholastic News magazine will engage my students, build nonfiction-reading skills, and increase content area knowledge.
According to the Scholastic News website, over 6 million students read Scholastic News every week! My students struggle with reading, especially with nonfiction reading. These magazines are written really well and are very kid-friendly! We will use them on Fridays as a partner activity.
