Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 1st graders come to school every day eager to learn something new! They are creative, kind-hearted, and enthusiastic kiddos. They love hands-on learning activities and connecting with the world around them!
Their love for school and learning inspires me everyday!
Our school is located in Central Florida. Most of my students are English Language Learners who typically speak Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese at home. It is amazing to see them come to school and speak a totally different language than they are used to. It is amazing to watch them grow!
My Project
These Scholastic News articles will help my students to practice their reading skills as well as provide them with quality non-fiction articles to integrate in Science and Social Studies. Not only are they integrated in our curriculum, they also build on the necessary first grade reading skills that we teach. The articles progressively get more difficult in complexity as the year goes on.
Each newspaper has an online Spanish translation and videos to support the Spanish speaking ELLs in my classroom!
I am excited to use these as a quality resource in my classroom for whole group and small group instruction!
