This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are 25 third grade students in our urban school setting. My students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a variety of life experiences with them. They come to school every day ready learn and it is up to me to find fun and engaging ways to reach their diverse learning needs. So many of our students come to school dealing with their own personal issues, and they do not see beyond themselves and the present moment. Students need to have to materials that will increase engagement in the classroom and spark a love of learning.
As their teacher, I work hard to provide rich experiences that will help them connect their learning to the world around them, and increase literacy skills through highly engaging texts.
I want my students to not only be successful today but to become problem solvers that will help shape the world around us!
My Project
Over the past 5 years, I have been fortunate enough to provide Scholastic News for my students. This allows me to connect current events to my classroom in a child friendly way. My students are excited to learn about kids like themselves, as well as kids from all over the world. I also asked for pencils to allow my students to continue to work on writing in response to our reading. This project will help me to create a lasting impact on my students!
The relationship between reading and writing is key for students and will help them to continue to grow as learners in my classroom and beyond!
