Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a class we have built a community of learners, friends, and leaders. My students start class each day with an open-mindset to accept daily challenges. They are prepared to learn from mistakes and have the courage to ask for help. We do not believe in "I can't...". We believe in "I can't... yet"
I teach at a Title One school that focuses on academic achievement, family involvement and building strong community.
We are a neighborhood school. Most of our students and their families walk to and from school each day.
Ninety-seven percent of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch, and about sixty percent of students are English Language Learners. Many students are living in poverty and for some, coming to school is part of their first experience in America. In spite of these challenges, students at our school are some of the most passionate, engaged and intelligent learners I've ever
My Project
Scholastic News subscriptions will help my students have a better understanding of current events and offers so many great ways to integrate subjects. With Scholastic News I can integrate social studies into language arts with interesting topics and help my students become bigger role players in their communities.
Scholastic Science subscriptions will help me integrate science into language arts.
There are studies showing that integrating science into language arts during the school day actually boosts literacy and comprehension scores. This happens because the students with access to STEM are interested and committed to the topics that they are learning about.
